The collection consists of correspondence files which document course and curriculum developments, committee activities, and faculty appointments. The majority of the correspondence is between the department chairperson, the faculty, and the Dean of the College of Letters & Science. The collection also contains departmental meeting minutes documenting appointments, scheduling of classes, miscellaneous announcements, and administrative matters of concern. Other materials include degree proposals; brochures; minutes of the executive committee; research findings, both published and interdepartmental; and information pertaining to the Summer Institute in Physics, a course in mathematics and physics offered to high school teachers of physics. Also included are documents relating to the Science Bag program and the Laboratory for Surface Studies. Finding aid available in the Archives.
